Commissioned by digital agency MITCHDesigns to engineer Egyptolution, an online tourism and culture publication featuring heavy editorial photography and long-form articles. In 2010, the regional web landscape was constrained by low consumer bandwidth, while the editorial desk required frequent publishing of high-resolution visual media.

Architectural Decisions

  • ->Custom Object-Oriented PHP MVC Framework: Architected an in-house model-view-controller core, separating routing, business logic, and presentation templates for clean modular extension by the development team.
  • ->Relational Schema Decoupling: Isolated heavy article text columns and media metadata into dedicated indexed MySQL tables, preventing table read-locks during concurrent editorial writes and traffic spikes.
  • ->Asynchronous Media Pipeline: Decoupled media ingestion from the HTTP request cycle by routing image processing to scheduled cron workers that generated tiered resolution variants before storage persistence.
