Lead Full-Stack Engineer & Software Architect | Focus Media Group (HSP) | 2017
//Context & Scale
Focus Media Group (FMG) is a regional digital media and venue technology provider in Cairo. Commercial venues, conference facilities, and premier hospitality operators faced operational friction managing paper-based or disconnected conference hall schedules, leading to double-bookings, confusing venue wayfinding, and poor attendee visibility during major corporate events. FMG independently contracted Alex Seif as Lead Full-Stack Engineer and Architect to engineer HSP: a centralized, multi-tier web platform managing venue space allocation, dynamic schedule entry, and automated hallway digital signage across luxury hotel chains (including Hilton), innovation hubs (The GrEEK Campus in downtown Cairo), and corporate installations (such as Mercedes-Benz).
//Architectural Decisions
- ->Three-Tier Separation of Concerns: Architected the platform into three synchronized operational layers:
- ->FMG Master Administration Console: For multi-venue onboarding, room geometry definitions, hardware assignment, and global system configuration.
- ->Venue Operations Portal: For hotel and event coordinators to book halls, manage recurring conference sessions, resolve scheduling conflicts, and configure sponsor branding.
- ->Autonomous Digital Signage Display Engine: For unattended hardware screens operating in public lobbies and hallway tablet enclosures.
- ->Relational Booking & Conflict Engine: Designed an indexed MySQL schema modeling physical rooms, session time windows, setup/breakdown buffers, and capacity limits, strictly preventing double-booking overlaps at the database transaction layer.
- ->Lightweight Low-Bandwidth Display Polling: Implemented a lightweight client-side polling and rendering loop for hallway tablets and lobby monitors, ensuring screens self-heal and stay accurate through intermittent local network drops without requiring high-bandwidth socket persistence.
//Engineering Execution
- ->Lobby Wayfinding Display System: Developed a dedicated full-screen lobby concierge interface that aggregated active daily events, displaying hall names, start/finish times, and dynamic directional arrows guiding attendees toward specific floors and building wings.
- ->Hallway Room-Door Tablet App: Engineered a responsive, kiosk-mode tablet interface mounted outside each meeting room, automatically cycling current session titles, presenter names, and upcoming agenda slots with high-contrast legibility.
- ->Hardware Integration & Kiosk Lockdown: Configured Linux and Android kiosk display runtimes to auto-boot into the web application, prevent guest tampering, and cache session data locally in the browser to survive temporary router disconnects.
//Measurable Impact
- ->Enterprise-Scale Deployments: Successfully deployed across major commercial venues, including luxury hotels (Hilton), Cairo's prominent tech park (The GrEEK Campus), and enterprise corporate events for brands including Mercedes-Benz.
- ->Zero Scheduling Overlaps: Eliminated hall booking conflicts through strict database-level reservation constraints and automated room turnover intervals.
- ->Reduced Staff Overhead: Automated attendee wayfinding and hallway signage in real time, drastically cutting manual event coordination and information desk inquiries.
